Weekend, Creech, Wareham, Dorset, England.

From Creech...
An idyllic weekend trip to the countryside :-)...the perfect place . . . green rolling hills, old stone cottages, random sheep wandering about the narrow, winding roads and rustic footpaths.
If you ever feel the need to escape the city, find your way to the English countryside. The little village...farmers still building and maintaining stone walls by hand... years of history... Here time nearly stands still and the pace of life is relaxed... slowing down. Here you'll lose yourself in the greenest hills and country air . .

Global warming sceptics...

But...THE massive snowfall forecast for last night seems to have bypassed most of Dorset. Dorset escapes worst of snow.

...I love it!

The Last Year Snow Was Falling Down...
...тихо падал прошлогодний снег.

Но том и кончилась сказка.
А вот теперь - начинается чистая правда...

...a quirk of English people.

"To English people, Europe functions as a strange alternative universe. English people tend to choose a European country to express the suppressed part of their personality. So people who would like to be more arty and passionate become obsessed with Italy. People who'd like to be more intellectual and sophisticated become obsessed with France. The obsession with Spain has to do with feeling that at heart you're really a let-your-hair-down type of person. And this is, of course, so antithetical to the character of Vivian. She's absolutely the perfect person to be obsessed with Spain. In my mind, her obsession is very true to life as a quirk of English people."
Rachel Cusk's "In the Fold"

Rachel Cusk is regarded as one of Britain's most brilliant young writers.
Her life has been a tortuous journey through an isolated, illness-plagued childhood, a failed first marriage and a personal battle for independence. Rachel was born in 1967 to English Catholic parents in Canada, the second of four children.

Weekend, Blandford Forum

The town sits in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Blandford Forum was built on the River Stour and unfortunately had to be rebuilt in 1731 after a great fire destroyed the majority of the town centre. The Bastard bothers were brought in to rebuild it which then took a further thirty years. Because of this Blandford Forum has become one of the very best preserved Georigian towns in the entire country. The market place still stands in the town centre, just as it has for over two hundred years.

Short trip: West Creech Hill.

I made use of the excellent weather today and visited the viewpoint on West Creech Hill.
Creech is surely one of Dorset’s most distinctive landmarks.
On the clearest days views open up in all directions: to Wareham with its church and the masts of the yachts on the Frome, across the Harbour to Poole and the glittering tower blocks of Bournemouth beyond, over the heathland to the west towards Lulworth, and to the east over Nine Barrow Down to the wide sweep of Swanage Bay.

Weekend. Red October: field of poppies.

Indian summer brings out the poppies the late flowering in a field near Shaftesbury, in north Dorset.

Бабье лето приподнесло сюрприз в виде поля цветущего мака вблизи Shaftesbury, в Северном Dorset.
